When a birth takes place in the world; at that accurate time, all planets in their orbits, give you an idea about their collision on the subject according to their nearness to the Earth in the orbits correspondingly.

As we all know that the sun is the hub of all orbits and the planets that are moving around the sun in their own trajectories. Because we have to be familiar with the impacts of planets on anything on the earth, we keep to subject in center with the Earth and we do all computations about every planet (including the sun) along with their effects on the subjects. This is the elementary or essential subject matter of astrology.

There are two varieties of the astrology,

I. Solar based - very popular in western countries and

II. Moon based or lunar astrology—this is accepted in India as well as in the rest part of  subcontinent.

In India the astrology is called as JYOTISH SHASTRA.

The definition of jyotish shastra: -- “JYOTISHAM SURYADI-GRIHANAM BODHAKAM SHASTRAM”.

The translation of the shloka is now word by word JYOTISHAM= the astrology; SURYADI -GRIHANAM = surya stands for the sun, the word grihanam means the essential nine planets including sun; BODHAKAM= the subject which make available the knowledge or the donor of gyan the knowledge.

The jyotish is the subject that provides us the knowledge about the time, the days, months, years, the activities of the stars, the manifestation of a comet, travels of galaxies and planets as well as their effects on the globe, on atmosphere, on livings and non-livings.

A jyotishacharya or the astrologer can calculate all about the forthcoming events in the sky like solar or lunar eclipses, the forthcoming locations of stars and a lot of supplementary. He can produce a forecast with orientation to the effects of the concerning occurrence in the cosmos.

Consequently, the mathematics has deep and exclusive relationship with jyotish that the mathematic is synonym of the jyotish. We say GANIT in the Sanskrit to mathematics. GANIT is the word, which is, oriented a Sanskrit verb “GANANA” means counting or computing. Since many centuries we introduced our counting from zero to eighteen digits. Incredible Have the endurance.

The attitudes of western intellectuals about jyotish shastra: --

1. Professor Maxmullar (the germen) writes in his book (what India can teach us” page no. 360-366) “ the Indians are not the borrower of any civilization or country for the knowledge of stars and cosmos. The Indians have their own and original knowledge about astrology.”

2. The Orion or Researches into Antiquity of Vedas, pp. 1-9, and 17-38: --“ How the planets attract to each other due to their gravitation. Which star is brighter After the researching study of the Rigveda (the first Veda) and another related texts like the Shatpath-brahmin shows that almost 28000 years ago Indians have churn out the knowledge about cosmos and the activities its contains like stars, galaxies, zodiacs, months and years. The Indians have their own calendar too.

3. The encyclopedia of Britannica, edition 17, page no. 626: -- “there is no doubt that our existing order of numbers is originally from India. Possibly in773AD an Indian ambassador came to Baghdad with the tables of astrological subjects and thus the entry of the counting could be possible in Arab or gulf. And then in beginning of the ninth century Abuzfazer Al Khrizmi carried it forward. The Europeans took these numbers with zero from Arabians in twelfth century. This mathematics is now famous as ‘Al ageratums’.”

4. D Morgan accepts in his book the ancient and mediaeval India (Vol.1, page 374.) “The mathematics and astrology of India is ever greater then any principle of Greek’s mathematics or astrology. Their elements of the knowledge are original and authentic.

5. The famous Chinese intellect (the letters from India: Vol.1, page 114) writes, “When the modern and cultured societies had not begin to move their limbs, the two twin brothers India and china stared to solve the mysteries of astrology.”

6. Professor Walls elaborates in his text (mill’s India: Vol. II, page 151) “ the knowledge of algebra is not possible without the knowledge of geometry. Indian had the knowledge of both”.

In the same book, Mr. Wilson says “ Indian had invented the theories of mathematics and astrology in very ancient era.” For the learning purpose I am providing here the knowledge of about some important terminology and technological words list so that the learning may be easier.
