The commencement of menstrual cycle young lady is a sort of stroke of luck for mankind. This is the development that makes a lady the mother one of the most respectable designation. But on contrary if this cycle gets idiosyncrasy or irregularity due to any reason, it becomes a curse. However abnormal menstrual periods in various form is continuously. This is elaborated in ayurvedic texts as ASRIGDAR. Sushruta assumes the term for this as LOHITKSHARA (Su.Ut.38) and Charak postulates this as ASRAJA the RAKTAPITTA type disorder. Medically the Dysfunctional uterine bleeding (DUB) is defined as abnormal uterine bleeding caused by a hormonal mechanism. Any alteration of the normal menstrual cycle mechanisms can lead to steady-state estrogen production and DUB. Ayurveda considers the DUB is a cluster of diseases that can be revolutionized many other diseases like infertility, anemia and other.
Causes The annoyance of the dosha especially amalgam of Pitta with Rakta is responsible and according to modern medicine has the following explanation

Infections Chlamydia gonorrhea PID Medications hormonal agents low-dose oral contraceptive pills (OCPs) nonprogestin-containing IUDs nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS) Norplant System progestin-only contraceptive (the "mini pill") tamoxifen ,warfarin Pregnancy ectopic pregnancy incomplete abortion v pregnancy complications
Symptoms • Vaginal bleeding between periods • Abnormal menstrual periods • Variable menstrual cycles (usually less than 28 days between menstrual periods) • Variable menstrual flow ranging from scanty to profuse • Infertility • Mood swings • Hot flashes • Vaginal tenderness Hirsutism -- excessive growth of body hair in a male pattern
Signs and tests A pelvic examination will be performed. Tests usually include: • CBC • Serum HCG (to rule out pregnancy) • Thyroid function tests • Hormone tests o Androgen levels o FSH (follicle-stimulating hormone) o LH (luteinizing hormone) o Prolactin o Progesterone • Blood clotting profile The following procedures may be performed: • Endometrial biopsy • D and C (dilatation and curettage) • Pelvic ultrasound • Hysteroscopy
The management There are pretty enough and brilliant treatments are available in ayurveda. Medicinal treatment Bolbaddh ras, Bolparpatee, Pushpdhanva ras, Purn chandrodaya ras, Pushyanug churna, Aswagandha churn, Shubhra Bhasm, Kanya lauhadi vati, Maha phal ghrit, Ashokarishtha, balarishtha, Chandanasava, usheerasava, Baboolarishtha, and other generic medicines are available in the market.
Panchkarma: - Utter basti and Swedan.
Ahar the foodstuff The Madhur and Kashay Ras rich foodstuff is appreciable.
Yoga At the time of onset the patient must be in rest in bed. But in normal days some yogasana are found effective. Attitudes to be adopted Relaxation, faith, serenity, self-fulfillment, affirmation. Pranayama Rhythemic breathing the Poorak, Kumbhak and Rechak must be in equal tenure, then do like Nadi-Shodhan Pranayama or Anulom-Vilom Pranayama. Asanas Badha konasana or yoga mudra, Vakrasana, Uddiyana, Sarvangasana, Matasyasana, and Shavasana.
