THE COMPREHENSION OF PRANA: - By Dr.P.M.Sharma.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Science As Well As The Vedic Intellectual Capacities, Both Have Divided The Whole Creations In To Two Main Parts. A- SAJEEV (non-living), And B- NIRJEEV (living).
A. NIRJEEV: - The NIRJEEV Are The Subjects, Who Are Not Alive, And They Were Never Being Alive. Like Stones. Secondly, Those Who Were The Alive A Period Ago But Now They Are Not Alive, Like Wood, An Animal Dead Body.

B. SAJEEV: - All Alive Like You And Me, And Plants.

If Truth Were Told There Is An Element Within Living Organism, Which Keeps Us Alive That Is The PRANA Without A Doubt. In Vedic Ideology Has Distinguished Definitions Of PRANA One Of Them Is The Prana Or CHETANA Is That Substance In An Organism Which Make That Livelihood. Second Definition Is The Prana Or Prana Vayu, Which Keeps Alive To A Livelihood.

CHETANA: - The Literary Meaning Of Chetana Is Consciousness Or Awareness. The Literature Says: -

“ Chetana Dhaturapyekaha Purusha Smriti Sangyakaha”
(Maharishi Charak)

Means When Chetana Exists In A Human Body Than It Become A Purusha Or A Living Human Being. To Make It More Apparent We Will Have To Look Into That Theory Of Vedas In Which We Will Seek That How We Acme In The Existence.
The Whole Creation Starts From The AVYAKTA, AVYAKTA Means Beyond Description, Too Awful For Words. This AVYAKTA Is Imagination Of The Almighty God Or Creator Of The Cosmos.

And Subsequently The MAHAAN Came In The Existence. The MAHAAN Is Also Known As The ATMA Or The Spirit Or The Soul. This Atma Is The Prana. The AHANKARA Is The Next To Atma Or MAHAAN. The AHANKAR Is Also Called As The Mann Or The Psyche. The Amalgamation Of Atma, Mann, Panch Tanmatra, And Panchmambhoots Is The Living Organism.

THE ATMA: THE SOUL: -
“ PRANAPAN NIMESHADYAM JEEVENAM MANSO GATI, INDRIYANTER SANCHAR PRERANAM DHARARNAM CHA YAT………………….. BUDDHI SMRITI AHANKARO LINGANI PARMATMANAH.”
(MAHARISHI CHARAK)
To Inhale Or To Exhale, Blinking Of Eyelids, The Sign Of Life, The Movement Of Mind Stuff And Ideas, To Feel The Senses As Well As To Respond Accordingly, To Adopt And To Postulate, Dreaming, Requirements, Unwell And Good Feelings, Intellectual And Mentality, Reminiscences, Egotism And Other Are The Sign Of A Animate.

THE YOGIC PRANAS: -

An Abundent Inhaling Of Prana Through The Respiratory System Fills The Body With New Energy. It Strengthens The Heart, And Prana Gets Entry In The Whole Body Through The Blood Circulation. Yoga Literature Elaborates With The Purpose Of Prana; The Environment, In Which We Respire, Fulfils Several Functions In The Human Body. They Are Here.

1. PRANA – (here The General Terms Takes On A Specific Meaning) It Helps To Maintain The Functions Of Circulatory And Respiratory Systems As Well As Health Of Both Systems.
2. APANA – It Moves In The Lower Part Of Abdomen And Limbs. It Is Responsible For The Excretions Of Faeces, Urine And Emanation Fetus.
3. SAMANA – It Facilitates The Digestion And Helps The “JATHERAGNI” The Metabolism.
4. UDANA – It Occupies The Thoracic Region And Carries The Responsibilities Of Accent, Eructation, Gulping, And Air Absorption.
5. VYANA – It Is Spreading In Whole Body And Regulates The Circulations Of Blood.

Other Five Pranas Are The Auxiliary Prana.

1. NAGA – Provokes The Eructation And Relives The Tension Of The Abdomen.
2. KURMA - Regulates The Blinking Of Eyelids So That Eyes Can Be Staying Safe From Hazardous Articles From Outsides.
3. KARKA – It Keeps Healthy Our E.N.T. (ear, Nose And Throat) Region.
4. DEVADUTTA – Provokes Yawning To Restore Extra Oxygen To Be Refreshed.
5. DHANAJAYA – When Death Occurs All Pranas Flee Away From The Body But This Is The Only Kind Of Prana, Which Stays In The Body. It Remains In The Corpse For A Short Period To Swell That.

The Cluster Of The Entire Pranas Is Called As MAHAPRANA. The MAHAPRANA Is The Responsible For Our Lives And Got Gifts It With Soul. The First Five Pranas Are The Main Pranas. They Regulates All Bodily Activities Even The Keep Us Variable And Moveable. Ayurveda Says –

PITTAM PANGU (handicapped) KAFAM PANGU, PANGU MALA (excreta) DHATUAHA VAYUNA YATRANIYANTE GACHHANTEE TATRA MEGHAWAT.

Each And Every One Constituents Within The Body Are Not Moveable As If They Are Handicapped, The Vayu Or Vata Is Only Component That Carry Each Of Them For The Required Places. Like Excretion Of Waste Substances, Birth Of A Child, Digestion, Respiration And Many Bodily Activities Are Only Possible Due To Prana.
The Respiration Is Also Known As Prana In Yoga Shastra. Deep Spiritual Experiences Exhaust To The Nervous System. Then A Yogi Feels The Necessity Of Refreshments. That Is Why He Does The Pranayama. To Start The Meditation And Related Yogasanas A Performer Does The ANULOM-VILOM Type Pranayama To Purify The IDA, PINGLA And SUSHUMNA NADEES (the Part Of Nervous System).
Swami Vivekanand Says In His Book The Rajyoga The Regular Practice Of Rajyoga For Six Months Can Rouse The Sixth Sense And Practice For A Yearlong Period Can Provoke The Ability Of Forecasting As Well.
A HATHA- YOGI Brings All Prana Together And Accumulates Them In The SAHASRA DHAR CHAKRA, This Stage Of Yoga Is Known As SAMADHI. In The Samadhi The Yogi Can Survive For Thousand Years Store. At The Last We Can Say That Prana Is The Root Cause Of Our Aliveness And The Foundation Of The All-yogic Ways Of Life.
