Psoriasis is a chronic skin disease characterized by dry red patches covered with scales, occurs especially on the scalp and ears and genitalia and the skin over bony prominences.

Medically the Psoriasis is one of the most common dermatological diseases affecting one to three percent of people. Erythematous sharply demarcated papules and round plaques, covered by silvery micaceous scales, characterize it. The lesions are variably pruritic. The most common areas of involvement are the elbows, knees, gluteal region, clefts and scalp.

Lesions tend to be symmetric, most patients have stable, and slowly growing infiltrated plaques, which remain unchanged for long period.
About half of patients have fingernail involvement, appearing pitting, nail thickening, or sublingual hyperkaritosis.

Psoriatic arthritis –

About five to ten percent of psoriatic patients have joint complains often when there is fingernail involvement. Although some have typical rheumatic arthritis, many have joint disease especially associate with psoriasis.

There is not any matching word for psoriasis. But it is collectively MANDALA-KUSHTHA, EK-KUSHTHA and Sushruta includes this in PAUNDREEK-KUSHTHS. The symptoms of this malady are described prey well.

THE MANAGEMENT IN AYURVEDA—

Ayurvedic medicines –

Chitrak Gutika, RajRajeshwer Ras, Gandaradi Tail, ArogyaVardhini Bati and many more.

External preparations—

The nut of Kignelia Pinnata is very beneficial for psoriatic patient but only externally.

Panch karma –

the Vaman (emesis therapy) and Virechan (the purgative therapy) are highly recommended.

Ahar (Food)—

People with psoriasis are individuals with different backgrounds, habits and medical histories, who respond to substances differently at different times. Moreover, people with psoriasis can have remissions that have nothing to do with changes in diets or treatments. These variables make it difficult to evaluate whether any specific dietary change is responsible for clearing or worsening psoriasis. The addition or elimination of one substance from the diet can be the remedy for one person and the culprit for another. There is certainly no harm in exploring how diet impacts your psoriasis, as long as your overall health is not compromised.

People have tried many different diet regimens with psoriasis over the years with varying results, including the turkey diet, the low-protein diet, the starvation diet and the rice diet. Researchers also studied a potential connection between psoriasis and zinc deficiencies, but found no direct evidence that zinc supplementation will improve an individual psoriasis.

Yoga – though there is not any specific yoga is designed for this but some Pranayamas are found fine for this.
