Shirodhara is a form of indian system of medicine, that is ayurveda that involves gently flowing liquids over the forehead . It was developed by vaidyas (practitionars of Ayurveda) in India many centuries ago and now available at amny places including our center.
the Pink city for use in shodhan(detoxification) or sanrakshanam (restorative therapy) and can be one of the steps involved in detoxification or PANCHKARMA. The name comes from the ancient indian language that is sanskit words shir the head and dhara stands for flow.
The liquids used in shirodhara depend on what is being treated, but can include oil, milk, buttermilk, coconut water, or even plain water.
The uses of Shirodhara
Shirodhara has been used to treat a variety of conditions including eye diseases,chronic sinus disorder like sinusitis, allergic conditions and other diseases or syndroms like menier’s syndrome tiniitus, cervical spondilytis or other problem of E.N.T region, greying and falling of hair, loss of memory, neurological disorders, memory loss,sleeplessness or insomnia, hearing impairment, and certain types of skin diseases like eczema or psoriasis. It is also used non-medicinally for its relaxing properties.
There are specialized forms of shirodhara called taildhara, ksheeradhara, takradhara and jaladhara.
