Shatavari is one of an imperative herbal drug which has been used either single or in various formulations.   It has a strong rejuvenating, nurturing, and stabilizing effect on excessive air, gas, parchedness and apprehensive type feelings in the body and mind. As such it is traditionally used for nervousness, anorexia, insomnia, hyperactive individuals, and people who are underweight. Due to its cooling nature it is used for genital herpes, chronic low grade fever, chronic skin disease, hemorrhoids, hyperactivity, stomach ulcers, chronic hepatitis, gonorrhea, and to cool and purify the blood. This wonderful plant is so useful that is considered in Ayurveda to be the Compassionate queen of herbs.

Shatavari is a RASAYANA type herb that promotes an easier balanced life. For men it is a nutritious tonic similar to other aphrodisiac which increases erection strength and sperm count and decreases spermatorrhea. Because Shatawari is a gentle herb which regulates growth, is a systemic tonic, and is calming, it is considered, along with Ashwagandha, Kaunch, nutmeg, Gorakhmundi and Brahmi, to be excellent for most individuals. It is also recommended for seniors because it causes to feel better the systemic dryness which is part of the natural aging process. For post-menopausal women it is especially good when taken with a cup of saffron milk.

Pharmacokinetics: --

 

DOSH-KARMA: – Anti vata and pitta

EXTERNAL EFFECTS: - soothing

NERVOUS SYSTEM: - Medya means enhances the brain cells and physiology

DIGESTIVE SYSTEM: - Acting to neutralize acidity, anti-spasmodic,

CARDIO-VASCULAR SYSTEM: - supportive to heart functions, lowers the blood Pressure, lowers the blood urea a uric acid.

URINARY and REPRODUCTIVE SYSTEM: - diuretic

Masculine: works like aphrodisiac, improves the quality of semen and spermatozoids.

Feminine:  increases the milk production in lactating mothers, but this can be cause of abortion because shatavari squeezes firmly the uterus. Therefore this is contraindicated in pregnancy.

 

Therapeutic uses of shatavari

This is useful in migraine, insomnia, poor memory, epilepsy, hyperacidity, piles or hemorrhoids, insufficient and poor spermatozoa count in the semen, poor lactation, general debility in lactating mothers, babies and post tuberculosis rehabilitation along with weight loss and in poor eye side too.

 

Shatavari: Uses as home remedy

  1. Take 1 gram shatavari’s root powder with honey (Preference to honey) or water at empty stomach at empty stomach, twice in a day, is good for lactating mothers.
  2. Take shatavari, Ashwagandha, 1 gram each-

      Soak them in 200 ml of water at least for 8 hours a tumbler of glass or mud.     

           Add 250 ml milk and boil that up to 200 ml water is vaporized.

           Add honey and take it regularly for aphrodisiac effect and poor sperms or   

           Sperm count, and can be equally effective in poor sleep, anxiety and poor brain functioning. 

  1. Take 1 gram shatavari powder with honey can reduce the hyperacidity, blood pressure (in some conditions only)
  2. Use only fresh shatavary root powder

 

By-

Shatavari is useful in those maladies which occur due to annoyance of Vata and Pitta. Some researches observed that in those formulations, in which the shatavari was the important ingredient, they are very good to restore the health of decaying cells or tissues like VISHNU Tail, Shatvari Ghrit, Shatmulyadi lauh and Dhatu paushtik preparations.
